Tunstall soccer Miller

Senior Sofia Miller scored two goals against Martinsville High School.

The Tunstall varsity soccer teams played in their first district tournament of the spring season. The girls' team played against two different teams this past week winning one out of the two games. The girls played against Martinsville high school on May 18 and then again on Friday, May 20 against Halifax County. The boys played against Martinsville as well on May 18 and then Bassett on May 20.

The girls played effectively and determined during Wednesday's game, winning 3-0 against Martinsville High School. This game kicked off the 2022 district soccer tournament and it was a great start.

Senior Sofia Miller played hard, scoring two goals with both being assisted by freshman Valeria Rameriz. Junior Emma Dowdy sprung into action scoring 1 goal and having 4 helpful saves. Goalie, junior Kaley Fry, never stopped defending her team with making 6 saves.

On Friday, May 20, the girls’ soccer team played against Halifax County High School during their district semifinals, losing 4-0. Despite the loss, their determination never failed. Junior Kaley Fry came in strong having 8 major saves and Dowdy had 4 saves.

The team qualified for regionals, so they will be traveling to play against Northside High School on Thursday, May 26 at 7:30 p.m. This game will be the determining factor on whether they will continue to play in the tournament or not.
