MARION—Troopers from the Marion Post are investigating a fatal crash that occurred on May 24, 2022, at approximately 1:28 PM on County Road 108 in Marion County.

The crash involved a 1986 Chevrolet El Camino, driven by James Howell, age 80, of Marion, Ohio.  Mr. Howell was traveling westbound on County Road 108.  His vehicle traveled off the south side of the roadway and struck a tree.

Mr. Howell was transported to Marion General Hospital by Pleasant Twp. Fire and EMS, and was later flown by Medflight to Grant Medical Center in Columbus, OH, where he was pronounced deceased.  Mr. Howell was not wearing his seatbelt in the crash.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Pleasant Twp. Fire and EMS, Fort Morrow Fire and EMS, Marion County Sheriff’s Office, and Ed’s 24 Hour Road Service.

This crash remains under investigation.

 

Troopers from the Marion Post are also investigating a fatal crash that occurred on May 25, 2022, at approximately 1:02 AM on Water Street in Prospect Township, Marion County.

The crash involved a 1998 Harley Davidson Sportster X88, driven by Alec Bartell, age 22, of Radnor, Ohio.  Mr. Bartell was traveling westbound on Water Street when his motorcycle struck a large piece of construction equipment that was parked on the roadway.

Mr. Bartell was pronounced deceased on scene by the Marion County Coroner.  The passenger on the motorcycle, Emanuel Cole Bowdre, age 28, of Delaware, Ohio, suffered serious injuries as a result of the crash.  He was transported from the scene by Battle Run Fire and EMS and was later flown by Medflight to Grant Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio.  Helmets were not in use during the crash.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by Battle Run Fire and EMS, Marion County Sheriff’s Office, and Precision Towing.
