Notre Dame players are spread across the globe while on break before summer classes resume. Several are in Italy on a study abroad program. Many went home to their families, from Hawaii to the East Coast. And last weekend, four made a stop in South Carolina.

Freshman linebacker Jaylen Sneed, freshman cornerback Jaden Mickey, sophomore offensive tackle Blake Fisher and sophomore running back Logan Diggs worked the 2022 All-American Football Camp in Hilton Head, S.C. May 20-22. The tie to the area and the event is Sneed, a Hilton Head native whose high school coach, B.J. Payne, runs the camp each year. Tuesday, Payne tweeted a thank you to each of them for coaching it.

The All-American Football Camp is in its ninth year and advertises itself as the nation’s largest youth football camp. It was open to grades K-8 and had about 200 attendees this year. Each year, it welcomes college and NFL players as coaches and counselors.

Seattle Seahawks defensive lineman Poona Ford, South Carolina receiver Josh Vann, Tennessee quarterback Gaston Moore and Clemson defensive linemen Tyler Davis and Myles Murphy joined the Notre Dame contingent as camp coaches.

Payne’s tweet thanking Diggs showed Diggs coaching with his left arm and shoulder in a sling. He underwent left shoulder surgery April 29.

Dane Goodwin has improved year to year.

Payne had an interesting comparison for Mickey: Green Bay Packers cornerback Jaire Alexander, a 2020 All-Pro.

I have no quarrels about not being drafted. I have a chance to compete to be on a team right now. That’s all I can ask for.”
