An eastern Kentucky man has been accused of fatally shooting his brother.

On Monday, Kentucky State Police responded to a residence in Elkhorn City, a community of fewer than 1,000 residents in Pike County, on the report of a shooting.

State police said the initial investigation showed a domestic altercation between 36-year-old Cody Cantrell and his father resulted in another altercation, this time between Cantrell and his brother, Adam Cantrell.

During the altercation, Cody Cantrell is accused of shooting and killing his brother. The suspect also suffered a non-life threatening gunshot wound during the deadly dispute, police said.

Cody Cantrell fled the scene but was apprehended a short time later by troopers.

He was charged with murder (domestic violence) and fourth-degree assault and lodged in the Pike County Detention Center.
