Within the last two Custer County Commission meetings, commissioners discussed the possibility of renovating bathrooms in the courthouse and adding one bathroom to the district attorney’s office.

The renovation is estimated to cost about $470,000. In total, six bathrooms would be renovated and one added on.

“We’re hoping this can fall under our American Rescue Plan Act fund,” District 2 Commissioner Bruce Walker said.

The bathroom project can’t begin until the bathrooms are tested for asbestos.

“The architect said the first thing we need to do is check for asbestos. I contacted a company and they said it would cost $1,250 to test for asbestos,” District 3 Commissioner Lyle Miller said.

The commissioners approved using Stronghold Environmental, LLC, for the asbestos test.

Architects in Partnership and Rick Scott Construction are expected to be in charge of the bathroom remodel, but the commission has not yet approved contracts for each company.
