GRAND ISLAND, Neb.-Police in Grand Island are investigating after a teen died from a drug overdose this past weekend.

Police said officers responded to a home in the southeast part of the city at around 2:00 p.m. on Sunday.

Officers arrived and found a 17-year-old female unresponsive. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said it appears the teen had taken Xanax laced with Fentanyl.

The investigation is ongoing.

There were 107,000 overdose deaths reported in the United States from December 2020 to December 2021, according to the American Medical Association.

This is the fourth overdose death in Grand Island in 2022. In March, three people died from laced Percocet pills in one weekend. Mohamed Ahmed, 19, of Grand Island, has been charged in that investigation.
