The Yankees pulled out a thrilling walk-off win on Tuesday, but they may have lost two key contributors in the process.
DJ LeMahieu was a late scratch from the lineup, and Aaron Boone told reporters after the game that he is dealing with left wrist discomfort. The valuable and versatile infielder underwent an MRI that came back clean, and received a cortisone shot that Boone hopes will help him return in the coming days.
“We’re pretty optimistic that he’s back, not [Wednesday] but the next day.”
Giancarlo Stanton, who has been one of the most potent bats in the Yankee lineup this season, was removed from Tuesday’s game after striking out, where it appeared he came up lame after the swing and a miss. He will have an MRI on Wednesday to determine the nature of his lower leg injury.
“Not sure if it’s a part of the calf or what,” Boone said. “But we’ll know more in the morning.”
The news on LeMahieu and Stanton comes shortly after Chad Green was lost for the year to Tommy John surgery, and Aroldis Chapman was placed on the IL with Achilles tendonitis. Quickly, things have become a lot more trying for the once cruising Yanks.
“I tell you guys all the time, adversity is coming for you, and we’ve certainly hit some here these last few days,” Boone said. “But the season stops for no one, and we just have to keep competing and fighting.”
