I was working on an Alabama election cartoon yesterday afternoon - something about a gun-totin’ governor high-stepping through an apparent primary victory - when news broke of the Texas school shooting. Switching gears, I jumped on Twitter and found the following tweet floating in my stream (it was from 2015):
“In retrospect Sandy Hook marked the end of the US gun control debate. Once America decided killing children was bearable, it was over.” -- Dan Hodges (@DPJHodges on Twitter)

What a sad, ugly truth. Its dismal, hopeless message stopped me in my tracks. Are we so numb that we just shrug off these senseless massacres as being normal in America?
And then I found this rant. I’m with this guy: Warriors’ Steve Kerr gives impassioned plea to lawmakers after Texas school shooting: ‘I’ve had enough’ - al.com
Here’s another Twitter sniff: (19) Randy Archer on Twitter: “The Eyes of Texas & Alabama are @GOP blood red #ALPolitics https://t.co/nga6ixHZgq” / Twitter
