Greene County head girls’ soccer coach Maribel Hernandez talked with Raccoon Valley Radio about soccer, a sport she dearly loves. Raised on the sport in Mexico, the coach complete her first season as the head coach at 1-10, after being an assistant at Greene County.

The coach was asked if she she growth in high school girls’ soccer in Iowa. “I think it’s growing. You look at the future and in a few more years, we could, in Iowa get a professional soccer team, we could. We just need to be more supportive of the sport. I know that in town football and basketball are the main sports, but maybe within four years when we get the World Cup in America, more people will realize the impact of soccer and they would be more supportive of the sport.”

Although there was just the one victory for the Rams, they did stop a losing streak of 28 matches, and were more competitive throughout than in 2021.
