El Paso County Commissioner David Stout wins runoff; Carl Robinson falls to his opponent

Some things stayed the same, and others changed on the El Paso County Commissioners Court on Election Day in the Texas primary runoff races.

The Democratic incumbent for District 2, Commissioner David Stout, defended his seat from runoff challenger Judy Gutierrez. In contrast, the Democratic incumbent for District 4, Carl Robinson, fell to Sergio Coronado.

Robinson was down by a few hundred votes throughout Tuesday night. 

"God has a message for all of us, and everything happens for a reason," Robinson said. "So, should we not win, then maybe that's my destiny that I do something else to help make our community a better place to live."

Coronado won the race with 54%, or 2,888, of the votes; Robinson received 46%, or 2,474 votes, according to unofficial voter results.

Stout held on to his seat with 54% of the vote, or 3,371. Gutierrez received 46%, or 2,827.

“We’re up by more than 300 votes. I’m not sure it’s insurmountable, but I’m feeling proud and blessed to be in this position," Stout said early Tuesday evening. "I can’t thank the voters enough, I can’t thank my team enough — this has truly been a people-powered campaign.”

El Paso County voter turnout was low this year, with about 24,553 ballots cast in the runoff races. Roughly half of those were absentee and early voting ballots. 

Blanca Trout, the Republican candidate for the District 4 El Paso County Commissioner's seat, defeated her opponent, David Adams, by more than 320 votes. She received 56% of the vote (1,599), compared with Adams' 44% (1,278). 

Trout will be running against Coronado for the District 4 commissioner's seat in the Nov. 8 general election.

Judge County Court at Law 3

Melissa Baeza defeated Monica Lupita Perez in the Democratic runoff race. Baeza held a more than 2,000 vote advantage over her opponent, according to unofficial results.

She finished with 56% (9,791) of the votes, compared with Perez, who had 44% (7,731).
