Beatrice Humane Society takes part in Give to Lincoln Day

It may seem a bit odd that the Beatrice Humane Society is part of a Lincoln fundraiser, but it actually makes a lot of sense.

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Beatrice Humane Society may seem like an odd recipient of a Lincoln fundraiser, but the group does a lot of work beyond the city in its name.

“We did over 1,100 adoptions last year. Over 600 of those were done in Lincoln,” Vice Chair Timoree Klinger said. “We have a lot of supporters in Lincoln who come to Beatrice to adopt animals from us.”

The humane society will be part of Give to Lincoln Day on Thursday.

The humane society has a partnership with both PetSmart locations in Lincoln. But its reach goes even further than that.

“We actually help animals from as far away as Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas and bring them up into our care,” Timoree said. From there, they “place them in homes throughout Lincoln, and Beatrice and throughout the state.”

Beatrice is a no-kill shelter. It takes a lot of dedication to do that, and it hopes to be a model for the state.

“Because we are a no-kill, we have a lot of animals in our care at any given time,” Timoree said. “Right now, we have lots and lots of puppies. What that money helps us do is to take care of them.”

Any help the shelter gets goes a long way.

“When they come into our shelter, they get immediate medical care,” Timoree said. “This pays for their food, their boarding.”

That all helps fulfill the humane society’s mission of giving animals a second chance at life.
