The cast of “Menopause the Musical” is nearing the 6,000-show mark in Las Vegas.

It’s a big week for Vegas shows as Cirque du Soleil is preparing for the grand opening of all-new production “Mad Apple” at New York-New York on May 26. But Thursday also brings the opening of “Michael Carbonaro: Lies on Stage” at the Rio, where the innovative and well-traveled prankster takes the stage at the Penn & Teller Theater while its resident duo is busy touring Australia for the first part of the summer. “People always ask me if I'd ever go on their TV show Fool Us and try to fool them,” Carbonaro said. “I can now say with confidence that convincing them to trust me with the keys to their theater while they are away counts as fooling them big time.”

While he continues to entertain audiences at his dual shows “Mindfreak” and “Amystika” at his eponymous theater at the Planet Hollywood Resort, Criss Angel is also receiving rare honors and unleashing additional projects. Earlier this month, the U.K.-based Magic Circle, billed as the most famous magic society in the world, sent representative David Penn to Las Vegas to bestow the group’s Professional Honorary Membership upon Angel, its highest recognition for any entertainer. A grateful Angel thanked his cast and crew as well as his family, and then expressed his appreciation to “all of the loyals, all the people that support me,” he said. “You have made me the No. 1 best-selling show, not [just] magic show, show in Las Vegas. It’s sold out, and it’s all because of you that I get all these incredible opportunities.” One such opportunity will premiere on the CW TV network on October 16: The unscripted series “Magic with the Stars” will be executive produced by Angel featuring celebrities training with magic pros to perform illusions for a panel of judges.

The musical comedy juggernaut that is “Menopause The Musical” recently commemorated its seventh anniversary performing at Harrah’s Cabaret and is celebrating its 6,000th show in Las Vegas this spring. Cast, crew and producers Glist Entertainment are marking the milestone with another incredible contribution to the community. Since 2001, the show has partnered with the Susan G. Komen Foundation to raise funds to fight breast cancer, and more recently, it began contributing some proceeds to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, and Kathi and Alan Glist were proud to recently present a check for $20,000 to the organization.

Two big names in comedy are coming to Las Vegas to play different venues for the first time this fall. Nikki Glaser will take the stage at the Theater at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas during Labor Day weekend on September 2, and “Saturday Night Live” and “30 Rock” favorite Tracy Morgan will be at the Venetian Theatre on September 24. Tickets for both shows go on sale May 27. Other live event announcements this week include “RuPaul’s Drag Race” season eight winner Bob the Drag Queen performing at 24 Oxford at Virgin on June 12, and DPR (which stands for Dream Perfect Regime) bringing its Regime World Tour to the Theater at Virgin on October 9.

A Touch of Burlesque,” a sultry show performed nightly at Centerfolds Cabaret on Paradise Road, is putting together a special daytime brunch performance with several Vegas headliners including cast members from “Chippendales” and “MJ Live,” Tropicana star comedian and magician Murray Sawchuck, “Zombie Burlesque” star Enoch Augustus Scott and more, all to benefit the Nevada SPCA. The show is set for June 12 at 2 p.m., tickets start at $65, and a portion of proceeds will be donated to the local animal shelter. For more information, visit atouchofburlesquelv.com.
