Voters in Independence County have elected a new county judge. FutureFuel engineer Kevin B. Jeffery won the four-way race by carrying over 52% of the vote while Batesville Fire Chief Brent Gleghorn had almost 27%. Bryan Anderson took in 15.4% of the vote while Ben Rogers brought 6.99%.
In the race for Independence County Coroner, Randell Crabtree was the winner with over 56% of the vote while Jeff Everetts brought in just under 44% of the vote.
In Stone County, voters elected Jim Nesbitt to the county judge Republican nomination. Nesbitt carried over 50% of the vote while Robert Huckleberry carried around 42%.
There will be a runoff election for the Republican nomination of Stone County Sheriff. Brandon Long brought in over 30% of the vote in the four-candidate race while Nathan Masterson had almost 26% of the vote. Long and Masterson will meet in the June 21 runoff.
In the race for State Senate District 22, a runoff is expected between Rep. John Payton and Sen. James Sturch. A runoff is also expected for State Representative District 39 between Judge Robert Griffin and Justice Wayne Long.
Shad Pearce took a strong lead over Stacey Caplener in the race for State Representative District 40, and Chris Beller conceded to Bart Schulz in the race for State Representative District 28.
