Jonathon Horton to remain Etowah County sheriff, claiming more than 68% of votes cast

In a night of close races for Etowah County candidates, this one was not.

Etowah County Sheriff Jonathon Horton held the sheriff's office, garnering more than twice the votes of challenger Leonard Kiser.

Horton received 10,815 votes to Kiser's 4,896; taking 68.84% of the ballots cast.

It's a greater margin of victory than he claimed in his first election, when Horton got 64.4% of the vote.

Etowah County Sheriff Primary candidates Q&A: Incumbent Jonathon Horton and Leonard Kiser

Horton was elected in 2018, unseating incumbent Todd Entrekin on the heels of massive criticism regarding excess money from the jail's inmate food fund.

A total of 17,755 ballots were cast in Etowah County; 15,696 of them on Republican ballots. Of those voters, 15,711 cast ballots in the sheriff's race.
