SHE SLIPPED ON A MUDDY FIELD PLAYING SOCCER AND AT A SPINAL CORE INJURY THAT LEFT HER A PARAPLEGIC THAT HAS NOT STOPPED HER FROM BEING ACTIVE. SHE STILL ROCK CLIMBS. TRAININGOR F NTEX YEAR’S NEW YORK CITY MARATHON. SHE SAYS SHE’S MADE SO MUCH PROGRESS TO IMPART TO THE TEAM AT UOFL HEALTH FRAZIER REHABILITATION INSTITUTE. THEY ALL PLAYED A ROLE LIKE EVEN THE DIETITIAN THAT WOULD COME IN AND TAKE MY ORDER EVERYAY D WHETHER THAT WAS THE PT. THAT WAS JUST ENCOURAGING MEN O DAYS THAT WERE KIND OF TOUGH AND DAYS WHERE I JUST DIDN’T WANT TO GET OUT OF BED OR DAYS. I JUST DIDN’T WANT TO PARTICIPATE IN THERAPY THAT THEY WERE THE ONES THAT ENCOURAGED ME TO SAY THAT YOU CAN STILL DO THIS THAT YOU CAN MAKE PROGRESS. A Kentucky college student is sharing her story of determination and perseverance after a devastating injury.Sydney Kessler is a Ballard High School graduate and senior at Murray State University.In 2019, she slipped on a muddy field playing soccer and had a spinal cord injury that left her a paraplegic. But that has not stopped her from being active.She still rock climbs and is training for next year's New York City Marathon.She says she has made so much progress due, in part, to the team at UofL Health's Frazier Rehabilitation Institute."They all played a role. Like, even the dietician that would come in and take my order every day," Kessler said. "Whether it was the PTs that were just encouraging me on days that were kind of tough, days where I just didn't want to get out of bed, days I just didn't want to participate in therapy … they were the ones that encouraged me to say that ‘you can still do this. You can make progress, whatever form that may look like.'"Sydney is an exercise science, pre-med major and says she one day hopes to become a physician.
