For the month of May, the Belmont County Heritage Museum is hosting an exhibit courtesy of St. Clairsville American Legion Post 159 out of St. Clairsville.
The exhibit includes a display featuring two Belmont County medal of honor recipients from World War II, as well as items from the Vietnam War.
The exhibit is open through Monday (Memorial Day).
Belmont County will also be hosting Run for the Wall - the veterans motorcycling organization that rides from California to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington. The riders will be arriving around 6 p.m. on Sunday.
The community events are held to remember the real reason for Memorial Day.
Memorial Day weekend is always what people see as the official kick-off of summer, and we are all excited about that, but we don't want to forget the main reason we are celebrating Memorial Day,” Jackee Pugh, executive director of the Belmont County Tourism Council, said. “It's to really remember and honor armed service members that have fought and lost their lives protecting all of us. We're just so excited and proud of those men and women to be able to fight for our freedom.”
The community is invited to attend a ceremony for the riders on Monday at 7:30 a.m. before they hit the road again.
