A student at Coatesville Area Senior High School was stabbed Tuesday morning in the school’s bathroom, and police have launched a manhunt for the suspect.

Police are looking for Oddell Cannon, 16, and have filed charges of attempted murder as a result of a fight that took place at Coatesville Area Senior High School, in which authorities said he stabbed a 16-year-old sophomore nine times. He is being charged as an adult, authorities said.

Authorities said the student was rushed to Paoli Memorial Hospital, where he immediately underwent emergency surgery.

All buildings on the grounds of the Coatesville Area Senior High School were immediately placed on restricted movement. Students were being dismissed at 9 a.m. as police secured the high school to conduct an investigation.

According to police, at 7:25 a.m., police and EMS were dispatched to the Senior High School 11/12 Building in the Nurse’s Office for a student that had a slash wound.

Police from Coatesville Area School District and Caln Township were on location within minutes and immediately placed the school and all other buildings on the property in restricted movement.

Police are asking anyone who has surveillance cameras near the high school to review the footage.

“CASH ( Coatesville Area Senior High) is now an active crime scene and we need to allow our police departments the time and space to complete their investigation while ensuring there are no further disruptions today,” said Rick Dunlap, substitute superintendent of the Coatesville Area School District.

Students were dismissed from school around 9 a.m., and some parents arrived at school Tuesday morning to pick up their children. Students were interviewed about the crime as they were dismissed.

“Clearly, this is an extremely upsetting incident,” Dunlap said.

The Caln Township Police Department, with assistance from multiple agencies, is currently searching for Cannon. Anyone with information regarding Cannon’s whereabouts is urged to call 911 immediately.

Dunlap said school officials will follow up with counseling for students and staff on Wednesday.
