County’s Lori Phelps Receives National Recognition

Posted

HARRISON – At the Clare County Board of Commissioners’ May 18 meeting, District 6 Commissioner Bronwyn Asplund chose to forgo her report on townships and instead made a special announcement. Asplund informed that she had nominated a couple people for the National Association of Counties Achievement Award, then went on to describe the outcome of that action.

“I think this is the first time, as far as I know, in Clare County history that one of our department heads has received the National Association of Counties Achievement Award,” Asplund said. “And I would like to congratulate our own Lori Phelps for her work in Community Services, because she’s making a big transition now. But she received the National Association of Counties – this is all counties across the entire nation – Achievement Award for her work in Community Services.”

At that point, a booming voiced “Congratulations!” rang out along with a resounding round of applause.

Commissioner Sandra Bristol added that she had seen the notice of the award in the National Association of Counties magazine, although it had not specifically cited Phelps.

“But we [Clare County] were in there, and that was because of you, so thanks,” she said.

Bristol’s comment was followed by more “Congratulations” and “Good work!”

Phelps was graciously appreciative and, as usual, got right back to work.
