Authorities have identified one of the victims who was killed in a mass shooting at a Texas elementary school Tuesday.
Eva Mireles, a fourth grade teacher at Robb Elementary School, was among the 21 dead, a death toll that officials said includes 19 children and another teacher. Dozens of other students were being treated at Uvalde Memorial Hospital, and three others were transferred to a hospital in San Antonio. The shooter was killed by law enforcement.

“I’m furious that these shootings continue. These children are innocent. Rifles should not be easily available to all. This is my hometown, a small community of less than 20,000,” said Lydia Martinez Delgado, Mireles’s aunt, in a statement. “I never imagined this would happen to especially loved ones. … All we can do is pray hard for our country, state, schools, and especially the families of all.”

GOP Gov. Greg Abbott identified the suspected shooter earlier in the day as Salvador Ramos, an 18-year-old high school student from Uvalde and said it is believed he shot his grandmother before driving to the school, getting out of the car, and opening fire.

Authorities have not released the names of the other deceased victims, but several of those who were killed were children of U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents, officials told ABC News. Politicians and lawmakers expressed sorrow for the victims and their families, and some have renewed calls for gun control in a bid to prevent future attacks.
President Joe Biden was briefed on the shooting and delivered remarks Tuesday evening from the White House.
