More rain through midweek; Heat and humidity arrive for holiday weekend

A steady, soaking rain continues to fall over southeast Nebraska.  Rain remains in the forecast through Thursday morning.  After that, heat and humidity builds in to the region for the holiday weekend.

Rainfall amounts range from a few hundredths of an inch to over 1″ in the Channel 8 viewing area through 6 p.m. Tuesday.

The rain will become more scattered around the area tonight, especially after midnight.  Temperatures will hold relatively steady in the low 50°s, eventually dipping down to 48°/49° by morning.

Rain will begin to fill back in on radar by late morning, becoming steady after noon.  Rain will keep falling through Wednesday evening and start to taper off by mid-morning Thursday.

As to how much more will fall, a 29-computer model average suggests an additional 1.34″ of rain falling in Lincoln through noon Thursday.  The range amongst computer models range is 0.59″ to 2.25″.

Once the rain ends Thursday, skies should start to brighten as clouds exit.  This will send temperatures in to the lower 70°s Thursday.

Warmer air is set to arrive for the holiday weekend.  Afternoon high temperatures should be in the low 90°s Saturday through Memorial Day.  Humidity will be increasing each day as dew point temperatures climb in to the upper 60°s to near 70°.
