4 Peorians among 5 charged with meth trafficking
PEORIA (WEEK) - The U.S. Attorney’s Office said five people, including 4 from Peoria, are accused of taking part in a conspiracy over two years to traffic ice methamphetamine.
All are charged with one count of conspiracy alleging they “acted together together to distribute and possess with intent to distribute a mixture and substance containing methamphetamine,” prosecutors said in a news release.
The conspiracy started in February 2019, and happened in Peoria, Tazewell, and Logan Counties, the news release said.
Indictments were unsealed Wednesday in cases against four Peoria residents:
• Maria Guadalupe Flores-Cano, a.k.a. “Lupita,” 40, of the 1000 block of West Nowland
• Juan Carlos Figueroa-Ramirez, a.k.a. “Max,” 43, of the 1700 block of West Antoinette
• Edgar Daniel Perez-Hernandez, 22, of the 2300 block of West Lincoln
• Edgar J. Tello, a.k.a. “Joker,” 31, of the 800 block of NE Monroe
Also charged in the case is Juan E. Bernal, 53, from Atlanta, Illinois.
If convicted, the five suspects face prison sentences ranging from 10 years to life behind bars, and a fine of up to $10 million.
A federal grand jury handed up indictments May 17, but documents were made public after all five were arrested Monday.
They remain in custody and their jury trial is scheduled for July 25.
