A single-car wreck in Aurora killed one man and sent a woman and six children to the hospital.
Sergeant G.S. Hemby with State Highway Patrol said the driver of a SUV hit a curb near the intersection of Highways 33 and 306, lost control, causing the car to roll over twice. It happened at around 4:30 p.m. Monday, May 23, 2022.
Sgt. Hemby said three of the children are still in the hospital and two of them are in serious, life-threatening conditions.
Officials said two children are now fighting for their lives after rolling over twice in the SUV.
Sgt. Hemby said Destiny Cooper was driving with six children, four of which are hers and her 81-year-old uncle, who died in the crash.
“We’re so sorry to the families and the community for this sad tragedy,” Beaufort County Schools Public Information Officer Kristen Riddle said.
Riddle said three of the children, a first-, second-, and third-grader, go to Snowden Elementary School.
Two of them are the ones in critical condition at ECU Health.
“We have that crisis team there currently just for anyone that needs it, because you know, it is such a tight-knit community. It’s definitely gonna be felt by the community for sure,” Riddle said.
She said thoughts and prayers are with family and friends of the victims.
Sgt. Hemby said charges are still pending as they continue to investigate the crash.
