A family-run business offering restored furniture, local artisan wares and do-it-yourself home decor workshops is making moves in Lehigh County.
Uniquely Lopez Co., co-owned by husband and wife Juan and Dawn Lopez, will be moving in the coming weeks from its year-old spot at the South Mall on Lehigh Street in Salisbury Township to the Village West shopping center at Tilghman Street and North Cedar Crest Boulevard in South Whitehall Township.
The business is set to close its South Mall location in mid-June and reopen at its new location at Village West on July 1, Dawn said.
The Lopezes are moving their operation, also known as Uniquely Lo. Co., primarily for more space.
“This way, I’m able to bring more machines in to be able to help my artists and to be able to help the community more,” Dawn said. “The space also allows for more activities.”
Uniquely Lo. Co., offering restored chairs, dressers, tables and other furniture, originally opened in April 2021 in the South Mall’s former Getrude Hawk Chocolates space before expanding in July to a second mall storefront, featuring a gallery of completed pieces and space for do-it-yourself classes, across the hallway.
Late last year, the Lopezes closed the business’ original mall spot, which primarily served as their work space, and continued operating the larger storefront.
The couple runs the business with their children, Nathaniel and Izabella. Together, the family restores furniture that customers bring in to them as well as pieces that they obtain on their own via estate sales, thrift shops and more.
“The business actually started in 2019 as a result of my son, who goes to LCTI for carpentry,” Juan said. “His one assignment was to make something with a parent. So, we took apart a pallet, cleaned it up and put some hooks on it to make a coffee mug holder. We eventually started finding furniture and got even more creative.”
Uniquely Lo. Co. offers custom-painted and -engraved pieces, along with hand-made items such as decoupage, macrame and stained glass creations, from nearly a dozen consignors.
Customers also can shop a full line of Dixie Bell Paint Company paint and participate in do-it-yourself classes such as basic macrame, dream catchers, leather working, wreath-making and family heirloom board signs.
