Rob Gronkowski is the king of having fun during his time off. This is a much-deserved status, but it can’t come at the expense of the Buccaneers.

The Buccaneers are in a bit of a transition point from the team that won the Super Bowl a few years back. The big story for the team this past offseason was the ability to bring everyone back in free agency. That tune has changed this year, and it might include Rob Gronkowski.

From surprise retirements to free agency departures, this Bucs roster is going to look different in 2022. That is a good thing. Bringing back all 22 starters from a Super Bowl team sounds like a great feat, but it also shows that the team isn’t getting better.

Where the Bucs are at with their current roster relative to the last one remains to be seen, but it is clear that the roster isn’t getting better with Gronk dragging his feet on a return.

It would be one thing if Gronk wasn’t seemingly leading the Bucs on, but the cryptic Tweets, the Tom Brady workouts, and other actions that are obviously meant to create a media firestorm make it more annoying than anything.

If Gronk wants to be back, come back. If he doesn’t, retire the best tight end in NFL history. It really isn’t a tough decision because there really aren’t negative consequences attached to either option. Football is one of those sports where you have to be all in or all out. Anything in the middle gets guys hurt.

Being unsure is fine, but that makes it seem like a decision is already there in the first place, and that is fine. The Bucs just need to know so they can move forward. Tight end is a tough position to expect a lot from rookies in, and while this offense doesn’t need tight ends, the Bucs would probably want to find another free agent if Gronk doesn’t return.

We get that there is an added element of freedom given to guys of Gronk’s status, but that doesn’t mean that the next two months need to be based around having to analyze every Tweet to wonder if Gronkowski is going to sweep in at the last second to save the team.

Hot or cold. In or out. We don’t care what the decision is, but we need one soon if the game is about toying with the team and fans.
