UPDATE: The Yankees announced Tuesday that Chapman is headed to the 15-day IL with Achilles tendinitis.

No move has been made yet, but Aaron Boone made it clear that closer Aroldis Chapman is likely heading to the IL.

The lefty reliever revealed this weekend that he has been battling an Achilles issue for “a couple weeks,” and it has shown on the mound, as he has allowed at least an earned run in each of his last five appearances. He struggled on Sunday after Aaron Judge tied the game with a home run in the bottom of the eighth, with a walk and a wild pitch leading to more questions about his recent command issues.

The Achilles discomfort is his push-off foot, so it may be wise to shut him down for a bit. It seems like the Yanks will be going that route, further depleting  bullpen that just lost Chad Green for the season due to Tommy John surgery.

“Chappie’s doing a little bit better,” Boone said. “He's still likely an IL, but we're going to wait another day on that.”
