Brandon Tierney has been saying for weeks that the Mets need to go out and get a bat before the trade deadline to make the team a true contender, and on Tuesday, he brought up one in particular.
He would like to see New York swing a deal for J.D. Martinez.
Martinez is hitting like the four-time All-Star that he is with Boston, batting .349 with a league-leading 15 doubles, a category he led the league in last season when he had 42. His .971 OPS would provide a huge boost for the Mets, and in his free agent year, some wonder if the 34-year-old will be made available at the trade deadline if the Red Sox slip into another swoon like they had to start the season.
