MONROE (WWJ) – The search is on for a man believed to have robbed multiple banks in Southeast Michigan.

Monroe police officials say the man walked into the PNC Bank at 465 N. Telegraph Road in Monroe around 12:40 p.m. Tuesday robbed a teller before fleeing the scene on foot.

Authorities did not say how much money the suspect got away with.

Officials said Tuesday the suspect is believed to have committed several other recent bank robberies in Southeast Michigan, but did not specify how many other robberies or where they happened.

There was another bank robbery in Monroe last week at the First Merchants Bank on Dixie Highway. Photos of that suspect appear to be similar to the suspect in Tuesday’s robbery.

Anyone who recognizes the suspect or knows something about the robberies is asked to contact detective Merkle at (734) 243-7517 or detective Nelson  at (734) 243-7509.

The Monroe Police Department is currently working with the Monroe County Sheriff's Office and the FBI Ann Arbor Office.
