A day of new life in Greece to honor the life of a local legislator.
A tree was planted in memory of David Proud, who represented Greece in the Monroe County Legislature for more than a decade. Proud's family joined Greece Town Board members Tuesday morning to plant the tree, which is located along the town hall's walking track. They left a monument at the tree's base honoring Proud, who served in the Marines for five years.
Greece Town Supervisor Bill Reilich remembered Proud for his infectious personality.
"He was a person with impeccable character," said Reilich. "Always a friendly smile, always nice – maybe a joke or so that he would offer – but he was just a great guy, and I always enjoyed seeing Dave."
The ceremony was part of the town's annual Arbor Day, reminding us all of the importance of trees for our environment.
