I am going to the horse racing in a couple of weeks and I generally get dressed up a bit looking forward to hit as haven't been to the real summery ones since before covid.

It looks like it's going to be a warm ish day not gonna bother with my suit jacket and am gonna wear a a short sleeve shirt....

My question is, is it acceptable to wear a tie with a short sleeve shirt dont recall seeing this too often but should look okay shouldn't it

Tie without a jacket and with a short sleeve shirt not a good look IMO. None of the forecasts I’ve seen indicate sweltering in the next couple of weeks.

If you are going to Royal Ascot (you might not be, but it is coming up) it is a bit more of a formal affair, but unless you are in the really expensive areas I wouldn't bother with a jacket and tie. If it were me I'd wear chinos and a long-sleeved shirt (and a jacket if the weather wasn't looking too clever).

Just as a general point, I'm not sure wearing a tie counts as "dressing up", but ultimately you should wear what you are comfortable with and enjoy your day.

Don't wear a short sleeved shirt with a tie. Even if it's plain white it's best left as a uniform worn by policemen or an air steward.

Wear a tie with a long sleeved shirt and a jacket, or don't bother. Here's some advice.

You can't get a weather forecast that far in advance so ignore it.

Don't wear a short-sleeve shirt if you don't have the upper arms to carry it off.

What's a tie? And what's a long sleeved shirt? Threw them all out when I retired 12 years ago (even my black tie as I don't believe in wearing black to funerals - I feel it more important to go rather than whet you wear).

But a short sleeved shirt and tie? No, No, No. But do try to get some sun tan on your arms (or spray tan) first. Nothing worse than pure white arms!

I think the fact that your asking the question means you already know the answer short sleeve shirt in the summer yes tie no.

Blimey! I hadn't realised that Terry Wogan had fallen on such hard times at that point in his career!

Decided to wear long sleeved shirt, tie but no jacket. Weather looks decent but nothing spectacular

That is exactly what 'short sleeved shirt' says to me.

A wise choice. If it's not too late, I say ditch the tie, and team a blazer style jacket with your shirt. Undo the top two or three buttons, but no more than that - you don't want to look like a tart.

What a surprise. A long range weather forecast that wasn't accurate.

I wonder whether people would really take notice of a long range weather forecast before wearing a short sleeved shirt

What the weather is going to be is usually very accurate. The difficulty is *when* and *where* that weather is going to be as the systems speed up, slow down or change direction.

Not 2 weeks out it's not.

I think short sleeve shirts can be smart but there really is a decline in how people choose to dress. I flew from Doha to London a few days ago - and i found it a little sad the number of people who thought it was cool to fly in shorts and baseball caps. Even in club class.
