Arnold Police arrested a 35-year-old St. Clair woman and a 34-year-old Union woman after they allegedly stole $1,596.02 worth of merchandise from the Walmart store and fled. Investigators were still trying to find a 34-year-old Franklin County man who reportedly was with the women, police reported.

Officers were called to the store, 2201 Michigan Ave., at about noon April 29 after the three suspects allegedly stole merchandise and drove away in a yellow 2002 Ford Focus. An officer saw the Focus traveling east on Industrial Drive and followed it to Wachter Inc., 108 Industrial Drive, where the car stopped and the man and the Union woman ran from the car, according to the report.

The St. Clair woman, who stayed in the car, already was wanted on warrants from the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office and Sinclair Police Department and was arrested. Officers also reportedly found substances believed to be methamphetamine in her pocket and in the car, along with the merchandise allegedly stolen from the store, Arnold Police reported.

The St. Clair woman told investigators who the man and other woman were, and they, too, were wanted on warrants. The man was wanted by the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office and the Washington, St. Clair, St. Louis County and Chesterfield police departments for resisting arrest, stealing and theft of a motor vehicle. The Union woman was wanted by the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office for failing to pay child support, Arnold Police reported.

The Union woman was found later in the 100 block of Bogey Boulevard, where she was asking residents to use their phones, the reports said.

Both woman were taken to the Police Station, where they were booked and held for the other law enforcement agencies, according to the report.

Depending on results of the drug analysis, Arnold Police will seek charges against the women through the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for possession of a controlled substance and felony stealing. Police also will seek a felony resisting arrest charge against the Union woman, Cpl. Brett Ackermann said.

Police had not located the Franklin County man as of May 6, Ackermann said. He asks anyone with information about the man to call Arnold Police at 636-296-3204.
