The legendary ’70s and ’80s rock band Aerosmith is putting a pause on touring, including their upcoming Las Vegas Residency dates this June and July, as the band’s frontman, Steven Tyler, has relapsed and voluntarily entered a treatment program.
The group said that they plan to return to action in September, posting the following message to social media:
“As many of you know, our beloved brother Steven has worked on his sobriety for many years.
After foot surgery to prepare for the stage and the necessity of pain management during the process, he has recently relapsed and voluntarily entered a treatment program to concentrate on his health and recovery.
We are truly sorry to inform our fans and friends that we must cancel our first set of Las Vegas Residency dates this June and July while he focuses on his well-being.
We will continue our 2022 dates starting in September, and we’ll let you know any further updates as soon as we can. We are devastated that we have inconvenienced so many of you, especially our most loyal fans who often travel great distances to experience our shows.”
Tyler has been very open and vulnerable about his past struggles with drug and alcohol addiction, and we wish him a full and speedy recovery.
Eric Church & Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler Sing The Beatles’ “Revolution”
A country music superstar teaming up with a rock and roll legend.
Although, Eric Church is probably more of a rocker than a country music purist, and the Aerosmith frontman would probably agree.
A few years back, he got to chatting with the Arizona Republic about his country project, country music, and Eric Church, and according to him, Chief plays like Zeppelin:
“I mean, there’s a bit of commerciality about the Daisy Dukes and all that shit over and over and over, but for the most part, three chords and the truth. It’s fucking great. And when it’s twisted just the right way? I love it. It’s what I’m all about.
I mean, listen to Eric Church. That fucking guy plays shit that’s like Zeppelin. His band is so badass, right? I mean, there’s some songs he plays that are easygoing but some he plays that are like ‘Oh my God, who the fuck is that?’ Well, that’s Eric Church.”
Pretty high praise from a guy that knows a thing or two about blowing away a crowd.
So how did they wind up on the same stage?
Back in 2015, for a John Lennon tribute concert titled, Imagine: John Lennon 75th Birthday Concert, Chief teamed up with the Demon Of Screamin’ for a performance of The Beatles’ “Revolution,” which was of course released in 1968 on their self-titled double album commonly known as the “White Album.”
The concert featured a ton of performers including Chris Stapleton, Sheryl Crow, John Fogerty, Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson and more.
Eric also performed John’s “Mind Games” for the concert, but perhaps my favorite Eric Church Beatles cover is his version of “Come Together” that was featured as a The Outsiders bonus track.
Remember When Steven Tyler Dropped That Bizarre Bro Country Record In 2016?
It ain’t a secret that 2016 was a God awful year for country music.
We’re talking about a year where “H.O.L.Y” by Florida Georgia Line, “Move” by Luke Bryan, and “T-Shirt” by Thomas Rhett were sitting atop the country charts.
It was pretty bad, but also kind of marked the beginning of the pendulum swinging back a little bit towards traditional country music. Luke Combs and Carly Pearce would go on to get their first #1 singles the following year.
It also seemed like a time when every artist was trying to dip their toes into country music, as it was a good quick cash grab, and it gave them a chance to potentially rejuvenate their music career. We saw Backstreet Boys and Bebe Rexha jump into country music with Florida Georgia Line and this one…
No other than Aerosmith frontman, Steven Tyler.
That’s right, many may not remember, but the guy dropped a full on country rock album back in 2016, called We’re All Somebody From Somewhere (Oh, no shit?), as his first solo project.
Looking like Captain Jack Sparrow in a cowboy hat, Tyler thought he’d take his talents to Nashville.
We’re talking about a load of overproduced, lyrically shallow songs… the icing on the cake when it came to the state of country music in the 2010s.
His lead single from the album, “Red, White & You,” just might have the most cringy line in country music history:
“When I look in your eyes, all I wanna do is bang bang, baby like the Fourth of July.”
Even Tyler’s former Aerosmith bandmate, Joe Perry, was nauseated at his effort to “go country.”
He told USA Today:
“Hey, if I didn’t know him when I heard the song (‘Red, White & You’) I’d go, ‘It’s okay, next.’ I’m not going to say anything else about that.
Steven is in Nashville doing whatever he’s doing. He’s got a fucking rhinestone cowboy hat going ‘Yippee ki yay.’ I don’t know what else to say about that.”
Hey, I’m not against artists trying out a new genre, and some of these experimentations have turned out quite well.
But for my guy Steven Tyler… he needs to keep living in the “Dream On” and “Walk This Way” territory that made him great. The hyper vanilla bro country ain’t it…
