May 24, 2022 – It’s a time honored tradition, but this year in a brand new building.

The class of 2022 for Eisenhower and MacArthur high schools officially graduated on Saturday, May 21st, but former students of Johns Hill Magnet School donned their caps and gowns once again Tuesday for a celebratory parade in their honor.

Former K-8th grade students of Johns Hill have traditionally returned for a graduate parade once they finish high school, but this was the first time many of the students had seen the school. The  building they remember was demolished last summer.

The students, in their black and blue gowns, walked the 3 floors and halls of the new building and were cheered on by rows of K-8th grade students who look up to them. It was also a chance for the graduates to visit with old teachers.

Liz Bartimus retired from Johns Hill in 2018 but has returned to the job as often as she can as a substitute teacher. “This class is one of the last ones I had before I retired” Bartimus said. “I have so many relationships with these kids. I keep telling them . . they have a piece of my heart and I will never forget them. And I haven’t.”
