BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – IU Vice President and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Scott Dolson announced the hiring of Brian May as head coach of the women's golf program on Tuesday afternoon.

"During his eight seasons at Kentucky, Brian has been an integral part of building Wildcat women's golf into a perennial Top-25 program," Dolson said. "After spending time with him during our search, it's easy to see why. He has an energy and passion for the sport that is contagious, coupled with an expectation to compete for championships. In addition, he is committed to helping everyone on his roster maximize their student-athlete experience in every way possible. He's a proven recruiter who has helped his student-athletes develop and compete at the very highest levels. I am excited to welcome Brian, his wife Corie, and the entire May family to our Hoosier family."

May becomes the fifth coach in program history and joins the Hoosiers after spending the previous eight years with the University of Kentucky women's golf team as an assistant coach.

"I first want to thank Scott Dolson, Jeremy Gray and Indiana University for this opportunity to be the next women's golf coach at IU," May said. "This program has a rich history in the BIG 10 and I am looking forward to bringing that Championship Culture back to Bloomington. My wife, two young boys and myself are excited to be a part of the Hoosier family and immerse ourselves into the Bloomington community!"

In eight seasons with the Wildcats, May helped guide the team to four NCAA postseason appearances, a t-18th finish at the 2021 NCAA Championships, two individual NCAA qualifiers and several marks in the school record books. The '21 appearance in the NCAA Championships was the program's first in 29 years.

UK posted five of the six lowest team scoring averages in program history during May's tenure in Lexington. In addition, nine of the 10 lowest individual scoring averages in school history came under May's tutelage. Kentucky won three team championships and eight individual titles over the last eight seasons.

UK has won four straight NCAA awards for finishing in the top 10% of all women's golf teams in the Academic Progress Rate, which measures academic eligibility, retention and graduation. Rikke Svejgård Nielsen won SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2021, Kentucky's third all-time winner and the first since 2009.

A native of Frankfort, Kentucky, May graduated from the Golf Academy of the South in Orlando, Florida. May received his bachelor's degree from Eastern Kentucky in 2017.

May continued his golf career at the Frankfort Country Club where he served as the assistant golf professional for two years before being promoted to head golf professional in January of 2013.

A 2003 graduate of Franklin County High School, May is married to the former Corie Broering. They have two young boys.
