Panthers star RB Christian McCaffrey to be held out of preseason games
It's well-known that Carolina Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey is a dynamic force on offense like perhaps no other player in the league. It's equally well-known that both of the last two seasons for "Run CMC" have been marred by injury.
After playing in 52 consecutive games (including one playoff contest) to open his NFL career, McCaffrey was limited to three games in 2020 due to an ankle injury and then shoulder ailment. In 2021, McCaffrey played in just seven contests because of ankle and hamstring issues.
It appears that the Panthers coaching staff is already planning to take extra precaution with the 2019 All-Pro this summer.
In 58 career games, McCaffrey has racked up 1,138 touches for 6,602 yards from scrimmage and 47 touchdowns. When he made First-Team All-Pro and his first Pro Bowl in 2019, the 25-year-old led the NFL in touches (403), yards from scrimmage (2,392), and rushing and receiving touchdowns (19).
