Alabama actor Michael Rooker is front and center in the upcoming movie “White Elephant,” which also will be among the last for action giant Bruce Willis.

Some of Rooker’s most high-profile recent roles -- Yondu in “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2,” Savant in “The Suicide Squad” -- have had him in heavy character makeup. That’s not the case with this role: He’s Gabriel Tancredi, a mob enforcer doing dirty work for a heavy played by Bruce Willis.

Judging from a recently released trailer, he does a lot of dirty work, and he’s good at it. That’s up until he’s supposed to kill a cop played by Olga Kurylenko (Camille Montes in “Quantum of Solace,” Taskmaster in “Black Widow”). For reasons that aren’t made clear in the trailer, he balks and the two end up fighting for their lives against an army sent by Willis’ character.

Also in the mix: John Malkovich and guns. “A lot of guns,” as Tancredi says in the trailer.

In late March, Willis’ family revealed that he had been diagnosed with aphasia, which affects the ability to communicate, and was “stepping away from the career that has meant so much to him.”

The prolific Willis has several film projects pending release, according to IMDB.com. At least one of them, “Die Like Lovers,” was filmed in Alabama.

According to promotional materials, “White Elephant” will get a release in theaters and the AMC+ streaming platform on June 3.
