Serious car crash in North East

TOWN OF NORTH EAST – The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a one-car serious crash on Route 44 in the Town of North East that occurred at about 6:30 p.m. on Monday, May 23.

Deputies said the driver of a 1964 Oldsmobile sedan, Edward Ferrato, 69, of Ancram, was traveling westbound on Route 44 near the state line when he lost control, ran off the road and struck a tree.

Ferrato, who was alone in the car, was initially transported to Sharon Hospital but was later airlifted to Hartford with life-threatening injuries.

Police said the preliminary factor appears to be unsafe speed, although the acci9dent remains under investigation by the sheriff’s office detective bureau and crash investigation unit.

The sheriff’s office was assisted at the scene by the Millerton Police and Fire departments and Town of Amenia EMS.
