Tuscaloosa County OKs one-time bonus for retired employees

Recently, the Tuscaloosa County Commission approved nearly $200,000 for a one-time bonus for those within the county’s retirement system.

Tuscaloosa County Probate Judge Rob Robertson said $172,500 from the county’s general fund budget will go toward these employees.

“They have given a lot of service to this community,” Robertson said. “It’s small, but we have over 300 retirees that we still have some relationship with, and we hope it will help a little bit.”

Employees who qualify for the bonus have served at least 10 years with the county.

“Retirees generally are on a fixed income and they only have so much to go around each month, so I’m certainly intent this legislation was to aid in this time of inflationary impacts,” Robertson said.

Employees will receive the one-time bonus in October.
