The incident happened at the Main Street station on the 7 line in Flushing around 2:15 a.m., according to police, who told the New York Post that the 38-year-old man approached the woman as she stood near the booth and asked for the time before he suddenly slugged her.

The woman was reportedly treated at the scene and did not require hospitalization.

Police said the man was taken into custody and charges were pending as of Tuesday afternoon.

Tuesday's incident comes amid an onslaught of subway violence, including three attacks this month on MTA train conductors at subway stations across the city.

According to the most recent NYPD data, as of Sunday, there has been a 57.5% increase in the seven major crime categories in the subway system this year compared to 2021.
