Dothan woman charged after waving a gun towards an officer: DPD

DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — A Dothan woman has been arrested for waving a handgun toward an officer.

On Monday, the Dothan Police Department responded to an assault call in the Chapelwood neighborhood.

Rita Davis, 50, of Dothan, struck the victim on the head with a concrete block which started a fight between the two, according to police.

An officer arrived and was speaking to the victim and witnesses when police say Davis walked up waving a handgun and pointed it at the victim who was standing next to the officer. The officer then ordered Davis to drop the weapon but she initially refused to.

Davis eventually put the weapon in her boot and the officer was able to arrest her.  The victim received treatment for a minor injury.

Davis has been charged with second-degree assault, menacing, and obstructing governmental operations.

She is currently in the Houston County Jail and her bond has been set at $24,000.
