‘Speak to us more politely’: Russia warns enemies it will soon have 50 new nuclear weapons

Moscow claims it will soon have 50 new advanced nuclear missiles capable of annihilating its enemies ready for deployment in the fall, as the Kremlin seeks to show strength in the face of military blunders in neighboring Ukraine.

Dmitry Rogozin, the head of Russia’s state space agency Roscosmos, mentioned the Sarmat-2 intercontinental ballistic missiles, claiming the 208-ton and 14-story nuclear firepower could easily inflict deep craters upon “a hateful enemy.”

“I suggest that aggressors speak to us more politely,” Rogozin said, per the New York Post. “When equipped with a nuclear warhead, such a crater at an enemy target would be … very … very large and very deep and radioactive.”

“And not just one, but exactly as many as the most powerful nuclear missile in the world will deliver to the territory of a hateful enemy,” he said.

Rogozin, known for his bravado, tweeted a video over the weekend purporting to show a crater 26 feet deep and 66 feet in diameter inflicted by a blank Sarmat-2 missile, dubbed “Satan-2” by Western powers. Had the missile been carrying a nuclear warhead, the damage would have been much larger, he said.

In February, Rogozin warned that Russian engines controlled the orbit of the International Space Station and implied the Kremlin could allow it to crash back to Earth if it wanted to express outrage over sanctions levied for Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Rogozin’s claims about both the readiness and capabilities of the missiles could be exaggerated.

The missile can strike targets at a range of 11,200 miles and speeds of up to 15,880 miles per hour, Russia said. Last month, the country successfully tested Sarmat-2, which should make Russia’s enemies “think twice” before threatening the country, Russian President Vladimir Putin said. The Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation hailed the missile as the most powerful and longest-ranged missile in the world.

Putin has not ruled out the use of nuclear weapons in Ukraine and ordered Russia’s nuclear deterrent to be on alert in the early days of the war. Rogozin, a Putin loyalist, said two weeks ago that Russia could expunge Ukraine from the map if it wanted.

“NATO is waging war against us. It has not declared it, but it doesn’t change anything. Now it’s obvious to everyone,” he said in a Telegram post. “In a nuclear war, NATO countries will be destroyed by us in half an hour. But we must not allow it, because the consequences of the exchange of nuclear strikes will affect the state of our Earth.”
