Taco El Chon

Way 2 Go, 1002 Liberty St., has a new made-to-order food vendor, Taco El Chon, inside the store, selling Mexican favorites for takeout. It opened on May 5, Cinco de Mayo.

"We're a family with a dream," said Alexandra Amado, one of the operators of Taco El Chon. "I can't believe we made it. Yes, it's just an MTO in a gas station. But it doesn't matter when you're serving the best of Mexican food."

Their hours are Mondays through Saturdays, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Sundays, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. This isn't just a taco joint, either. They're serving tamales, enchiladas, empanadas, Mexican rice and much more. They offer delivery through Door Dash, as well as takeout from the Way 2 Go and, Amado said, they are building outdoor seating for guests who'd like to eat there.

Twins Restaurant

Have you seen the construction going on at the former Twins Restaurant, 4353 West Ridge Road? Well, almost a year since the restaurant was purchased, there's some obvious construction activity going on. The business and grounds were sold on June 9, 2021, for $200,000, to Lake Effect Realty LLC, according to Erie County realty transfers at bit.ly/2VZWXP9.

A call to the number of the former restaurant and catering business indicates the new name is The Boardroom. According to county records, the property and grounds were sold by Jeffrey and Susan Norris to Lake Effect Realty LLC. The LLC was formed May 2021, a month before the sale. Stay tuned on this one.

Firestone's, Gordon's Butcher & Market and Paris's Cap & Cork

The three stores at 4823 Peach St. are celebrating an expansion with specials, a ribbon cutting, beer samples and a happy hour Friday from 6 to 8 p.m.

The three businesses at 4823 Peach St., including Gordon's Meat Market, Firestone's and Paris's Cap & Cork which opened in 2021, are celebrating its first year in business with an Erie Regional Chamber Ribbon Cutting Friday "around lunchtime" with giveaways from Gordon's Meat Market all day. Paris's Cap & Cork will have Sloop Brewing Co. in-house for a sampling starting at 5 p.m., with happy hour specials at Firestone's, which now has an expanded seating area, from 6 to 8 p.m. with musical guest and friend, Ron Rudler "unplugged." If you want to see an uber-cool video about the party, watch the video invite at bit.ly/firestonesvideo.

The next night, Saturday, another tasting is going on at Paris's Cap & Cork from 5 to 7. Cinderlands, a brewer with locations around Pittsburgh, will be pouring samples and talking beer. Steve Taylor (Cinderlands sales manager) and maybe a few brewers will be pouring at the second event with Paris's Cap & Cork. The brewer, with locations around Pittsburgh, is a craft brewery and scratch kitchen they say is "focused on bright, beautiful beers, and unique beer-inspired food served from an open kitchen." If that sounds good to you, head up to Paris's this weekend and give it a taste.
