A loud boom got the attention of a northern Vanderburgh County neighborhood Monday afternoon.
Deputies say a construction crew were digging on Windemere Drive when they hit a gas and electrical line causing it to rupture.
A homeowner says this happened right outside his house.
When he ran out his door he saw a large plume of fire coming from the hole the crew was digging.
The block was evacuated until the flow of gas was cut off and extinguished.
Once out of danger, residents returned to their homes.
No injuries were reported.
