It was the end of the road of a memorable Washington boys’ soccer season on Monday when the Demons could not crack the code against Fort Madison falling 4-0 in a class 2A substate semifinal.

Having lost a pair of regular season meetings by a combined three goals, this one played out in similar fashion with a couple early Bloodhound tallies that proved to be enough with the score being 2-0 at intermission. That stayed true until 10 minutes left when Fort Madison (14-5) tacked on two more to send themselves to Wednesday’s substate final at Pella (16-2). Washington had four shots on goal, but could not find the back of the net.

The Demons close the season 12-5, their most wins in the varsity bound era (since 2011). They say goodbye to six seniors in Erick Ortez Jr., Fabian DeJesus, Emre Akgul, Cole Anderson, Quentin Howard, and Bryan Cortes.
