The first hit-and-run was at 10:15 p.m. in Hauppauge. The second was about 10 miles away in West Islip at 10:30 p.m., Suffolk County police said Tuesday.

"Both incidents are under investigation. At this time detectives do not believe there’s a connection between the two," police told Newsday in a statement.

A 28-year-old woman was standing on a sidewalk at the intersection of Motor Parkway and Moreland Road in Hauppauge at 10:15 p.m. when a vehicle, believed to be a sedan, traveling eastbound on Motor Parkway collided with another vehicle.

The first vehicle left the roadway and struck the woman before the driver sped away, police said.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by the county medical examiner. She was identified as Cherokee Fletcher, of Commack.

Minutes later at 10:30 p.m., a woman was struck on Montauk Highway, near Pease Lane, by a vehicle traveling westbound, police said.

The driver fled the scene and was last seen headed westbound on the highway, according to police.

The county medical examiner pronounced the woman dead at the scene. She was later identified as Tracey Dorismond, 32, of Brentwood.

Suffolk police are asking anyone with information to confidentially call the Major Case Unit at 631-852-6555 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
