The Yankton City Commission held a work session last (Monday) night on planned improvements at the wastewater treatment plant, their costs and how to pay for them.
The upgrades will cost around forty million dollars and will be paid for by a combination of eighteen million dollars in state grants and twenty-three million dollars in loans.
City Finance Officer Al Viereck says they have developed a payment plan….
Viereck says each wastewater user will be assessed….
Viereck says they will implement the surcharge over four years….
That’s about a thirty five percent increase in wastewater bills.
If the commission adopts the plan next month, it would apply to bills coming due in November.
