VIDEO: Hatchet-swinging man attacks teen in Flatiron

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A hatchet attack in the Flatiron District on Monday morning left a teen hospitalized, police said Tuesday as they searched for a suspect.

The 19-year-old victim and his attacker got into an argument at W. 26th Street and Sixth Avenue shortly before 10 a.m.

Police said the suspect thought the victim said something to him, sparking the dispute.

During the confrontation, the man pulled out a hatchet and struck the teen in his leg and foot, police said.

Video from police shows the suspect swinging the hatchet at the victim’s leg and then charging at him on a crosswalk.

EMS transported the victim to Bellevue Hospital in stable condition with lacerations to his leg and foot.

The suspect was last seen fleeing northbound up Sixth Avenue on a moped.
