'Star Wars: KOTOR' PS5 Remake Has Enlisted A New Developer

A familiar name enters the fray

The upcoming PlayStation 5 remake of Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic from Aspyr has enlisted the help of another familiar video game studio.

The remake of the beloved BioWare Star Wars RPG was first announced last year as a PlayStation 5 console exclusive. Though we didn't get much beyond a dazzling CG reveal, we learned that Aspyr, who previously developed the great mobile ports of the original KOTOR and its sequel, would be leading development.

As we await out first proper look at the game in action, Embracer Group has confirmed that Saber Interactive has joined Aspyr in the development of the remake.

Board member Matthew Karch announced the news during the Q4 financial report for Aspyr's parent company earlier this month.

"Aspyr has gone full in to make this the best game that they can make. When [Embracer Group] acquired Aspyr, we knew from the start that they would require our assistance," he explained.

"Saber has tremendous expertise in creating these types of products. We’ve done it on Halo – on multiple Halo products – so we’re been spending a lot of time working with them to bring this title over."

Saber Interactive has a pretty impressive CV filled with remakes and ports of some of the biggest games of the last few decades. Its helped out on the likes of Halo: The Master Chief Collection and Crysis: Remastered, and was the studio responsible for somehow squishing The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt down onto Nintendo Switch. I'll never quite figure out how they managed that one.

Anyway, my point is that Saber has a solid track record. Hopefully they can work alongside Aspyr to create the KOTOR remake fans have waited so long to see.
