Do you think it would be great if the soaps mention various events happening in real life more often

Well i think it would be great to see more real life stuff in the soaps as one soap will be celebrating the Queens seventy years reign and they sometimes mention other events like the Olympics and the World Cup when it happens in a certain year

Fun things like the Queen's Jubilee, Eurovision, sporting events, etc. Then yes I agree. Real life events where people might have died then no. Because it risks offending the survivors and making a mockery of the victims. Best to leave those types of real world events out of it.

Why do you make your own threads when there are plenty of threads for you to comment on in this matter on the first page of threads in this sub section

As Eastenders found out when someone talked about Hillsborough a few years ago.

That’s a bit silly though. It’s a historical event, they should be free to mention it. Like Corrie did with Manchester Arena.

Pretty sure that both Brookside and Emmerdale mentioned Hillborough in the years immediately following the event.

I guess whatever was said didn’t cause offence in those programmes

Sometimes they start at 23.50. I now because I always get a bit worried and restless waiting.

Eastenders mentioned Hillsborough directly after aswell. They had a scene with Arthur and Pauline listening to news coverage of it then discussing how terrible it must be for the families affected.

They'll never top Mick Carter giving a shout out to Wales' run to the semis of Euro 2016. For that alone he deserves icon status.

No. This leads to rancorous political arguments. I watch soaps, just Coronation St. and Emmerdale, for entertainment and a respite from life's problems: a fantasy world.

Did any of the soaps refer to 9/11 not long after it happened (as I know EastEnders and Emmerdale still went ahead on BBC 1 and ITV 1 respectively that evening), And I seem to remember EE mentioned the death of Michael Jackson in 2009 as well

    Wasting your breath...

The mods allow duplicate threads so I agree, no point saying or doing anything.

If members didn't engage (only if blatant duplication is happening) that would be more effective.
