Former Idaho Falls Mayor Jared Fuhriman died Sunday, the City of Idaho Falls announced Monday.

Fuhriman was 60 years old and served as the city’s mayor from 2006 to 2014. He also previously worked with the city’s police department.

Fuhriman was diagnosed with memory cognitive impairment in 2011 during his second term as mayor, and he lived with Alzheimer's disease until his death.

“Mayor Fuhriman served our community to the best of his ability and had a way of making everyone around him feel good with his friendly and reassuring demeanor," said current Idaho Falls Mayor Rebecca Casper in a city Facebook post.
