DOUBLE BRIDGES CREEK, Ala. (WDHN) — WDHN has an update on a case of animal cruelty.

As we first reported, a Coffee Springs man is accused of shooting and killing dogs, then tossing them off a bridge.

Over the weekend, the bodies of a half dozen or more dogs began to come to the surface in Double Bridges Creek in Coffee County. That’s near the Geneva County line.

Michael Kelley, of Coffee Springs, is accused of shooting stray dogs and tossing them off a bridge on Coffee County Road 655.

He’s been released from jail under $6,000 bond on a misdemeanor charge of cruelty to animals.

Nearby residents tell WDHN the carcasses have created a “terrible stench” and brought flies, snakes, and buzzards.

The residents say they hope the county can get rid of the carcasses soon.
